Introduction

The Department of Zoology of the College is considered to be one of the best of its kind in the University. It was established in the year 1991. It places a strong emphasis on under-graduate teaching having started T.Y. B.Sc. as special subject from A.Y. 2016-2017. The faculty members are specialized in academic areas; Animal Physiology, Endocrinology, Entomology, Fisheries, Biological Diversity, Environmental science etc. The Department is also involved in active research activities like Innovative Major and Minor Research Projects funded by UGC and Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The up gradation of the infrastructure is an ongoing process in the Department. Students are also exposed to hands-on research in addition to their usual curricular activities through the "Avishkar" for new innovations. The Department has its own computer, LCD projector with internet connection, departmental library with a collection of the good books, research/ review papers from scientific journals, Nature/Science documentaries and films. The Department of Zoology has been organizing seminars, workshops and conferences frequently. It also have vermiculture unit in the botanical garden. Regular consultation and guidance is provided to students and farmers to use the vermicompost as bio-fertilizer. The department of zoology has started the guppy fish breeding centre in college premises with the help of local Municipal Corporation. Guppy fishes are supplied to students, staff members and local people for controlling mosquito population in their residential regions. Faculty members are giving emphasize on modern teaching aids like LCD projector, animations, field visit, practical demonstrations, field based assignments, organizes field trips/educational tours as per the curriculum of University for the students. The department also provides textbooks for economically weaker students. Recently, college has started new paramedical diploma course under community college with the collaboration of zoology department. Zoology department also have social responsibility with scientific approach.

Responsibilities of Head:

  • The role of Head of Department is challenging, fulfilling and hopefully enjoyable. It provides an opportunity to develop the department.
  • Head of Department is responsible for the development of all aspects of the department.
  • Plays role model and leads to provide direction and focus, whilst allow creative solutions which may arise.
  • Monitors over Academic, research and innovations.
  • Staff development and student learning experiences.

  • 1. To Look over the admissions of students
  • 2. Departmental Meeting
  • 3. Workload Distribution
  • 4. Framing Teaching Plan
  • 5. Framing Departmental Time Table
  • 6. Framing Academic Calendar
  • 7. Supervision over regular theory and practical’s as per the scheduled time table of college and departmental teaching plan.
  • 8. Practical’s are conducted according to the guidelines of Board of Studies.
  • 9. Identifying advance and slow learners
  • 10. Extra classes for slow learners
  • 11. More advance study material to advance learners
  • 12. Conducting and Supervising seminars of T.Y. B.Sc. students.
  • 13. Organizing field visits, educational, excursion tours for students and other events as per the academic calendar.
  • 14. Organizing conferences, seminars, workshops relevant to syllabus and research culture.
  • 15. Organizing, celebrating different important days functions as per the academic calendar.

  • 17. Organizing community services based activities, like HIV, Addiction, Health, etc,.. awareness programs.
